I have been to this park several times when visiting relatives in nearby South Boston, whose downtown incidentally has a quaint museum, some good cafes, and several antiques stores. The River Bank Trail at this park has awesome views of the Dan River. A lot of horseback riding on it. The cabins are also excellent; ours had a fireplace, and firewood was waiting for us on the covered back porch. The heat pump kept us nice and toasty as well. The view of the sun coming up over the Dan River, which we could see from our back porch, was breathtaking. The park staff is very available; we needed guidance on using the fireplace as well as replacing a burned-out overhead light, and both requests were promptly handled. The gift shop has useful, reasonably priced items for sale.
