A nice trek for our family (children ages 11, 10, 8 & 6). You need to enjoy the little pleasures on this trip as their are no grand sights. Many wildflowers and a fair amount of game (3rd week of March) as well as great fishing were the major features. Trails are well marked and travel all of the boundaries of this park. You are never far from civilization (i.e. trains, sirens and truck traffic). Park literature states that human and other waste should be packed and deposited at pit toilets and waste receptacles at the 3 shelters on this 11.5 mi. circuit. There are no functional pit toilets and absolutely no waste containers--practice leave no trace. The highlight of this trip was the natural springs at each shelter. Although the shelters themselves were open, 30 yr. old adironacks, level tent sites were readily found at each shelter. The State Park campground is immaculate and all you could want in a trail-end retreat. The park ranger was very helpful and accepted our imput readily. Campground hosts and all locals were extremely hospitable. Considering we left OH in a snowstorm and enjoyed 70+ degree temps on this hike, we were very pleased.
