Description - If you want to immerse yourself in a subalpine pine forest where the air has that high-Cascades tang; to stay in a clean, quiet campground next to a twisting, cold river brimming with trout (and a nearby legendary fly fishing spot) and surrounded by miles of waiting-to-be-explored wilderness; to sit smack in the middle of dozens of high-mountain lakes (in winter, near some of the best ski-spots in the land); to see eagles or red-tailed hawks grabbing breakfast right in front of you; or, to just sit in a campsite pondering what you might do tomorrow ... then La Pine State Park demands a visit.

Attractions - La Pine State Park offers quiet campgrounds next to lakes brimming with trout and exceptional skiing during the winter months. Abundant wildlife and beautiful vistas are also what make this park a one of a kind.

The park is also home to Oregon's largest ponderosa pine. Nicknamed "Big Red," the tree is 162' tall, 28.9' around and may be in excess of 500 years old.

Vital stats: The park provides 95 full hookup campsites, and 50 electrical campsites (maximum site 85 feet; group reservable). The park also offers 5 cabins and 3 yurts for overnight stays.

Recreation - La Pine State Park offers opportunities for camping, cabin stays, yurt stays, fishing, swimming, picnicking, hiking and boating.

Climate - Climate in central and eastern Oregon varies greatly depending on elevation. The high elevations receive much more precipitation and colder temperatures. Much of the precipitation comes from October to April, mostly in the form of snow in the higher elevations. Winter temperatures can drop well below zero degrees Fahrenheit. Late spring, summer and early autumn tend to bring clear, sunny days, with warm to hot temperatures at the low elevations and moderate temperatures at the higher elevations. Summer afternoon thunderstorms are not uncommon.

Location - La Pine State Park is located in Central Oregon, off U.S. Highway 97, 27 miles southwest of Bend, near the town of La Pine.
