Report: This report is for the last campout at this location. Labor Day weekend, 2004. The campground was full, and since they do not take reservations, it's on a first come first serve basis, always, we ended up in the overflow. The overflow campground was almost as nice as the main campground. Had a full bathhouse/shower available. Cost is less as there is no water/electric in the overflow. All site had firepits.
The main campground, all sites have water/electric, all sites in main and overflow have firepits. NO sites have sewage on site, but main has 2 dump stations. Main campground has 3 bathrooms, with the main one containing the showers, and they are kept clean. My husband and I camp at Warrior's Path several times a year, and I've never seen the bathrooms in bad condition. Just well used.
The sites are well maintained, and roomy, all are wooded.
In our opinion, the best time to camp is in the off season, Oct. and Nov. Cooler temps, fewer campers, more choices of sites.
A nice side trip is to the marina, across the river. There is a walking path that is really nice. It's paved. Picnic areas, playground, etc.
Both the main and overflow campgrounds have very manueverable hiking paths. some are easier than others, but for the most part, none are impossible, even for beginners. If you're not into hiking, a walk around the campground itself is a nice evening time thing to do.
If you live close by, it's a good idea to drive through the campground before hand and find sites you would like, if you have a large outfit. Also, if you want to be sure you get a spot before you bring your camper in...take a small tent along, as you HAVE to have a tent or camper on site before you can register. Do this only if you really want a particular site and it's open when you do your drive through. It's not fair to other campers to do so otherwise.
There is a Food City grocery store about 3 miles from the campground, so if you forget anything, not to worry. There is also a Super Wal-Mart not too far in the event what you need can't be bought at the grocery store. Both are on Highway 36.
To get around the campground, when you first come into it, after you pass the registration building, it's easier if you take the road uphill to the right and come around, unless you know where you want to go. This way, you get a better overview of the campground, and since a lot of the sites are 'slanted', to make it easier to back into, it's just easier to go that route.
They do not tolerate any rude or disruptive behavior, which makes it a very nice place to camp, always quiet, within normal range (can kids ever be quiet? haha).
If you want a restaurant lunch at some point, there are all kinds of good restaurants in Kingsport. As you go out of the campground, take a right at the red light. Take highway 36 to Eastman Road, and take a right. All along there, and just past there are some nice places to eat. Also along Stone Drive, just off of Eastman, there is a Texas Roadhouse, Applebee's, and a BBQ place on the left side after you turn left at that light. Further up Stone Drive is Rush Street Grill, also on the left.
